Today’s post is the first in a series called “What the tech?” This series is meant to demystify the technology aspect of running a business and bring you into peace and harmony with technology rather than running in the opposite direction.
When I mention tech or technology in this context I am referring to software that can help support your business goals. When used correctly, the right tech can support your prospective clients in purchasing your product or services more easily, booking an appointment with ease or signing up for your next course in a click or two. Not only that, it can save you precious hours and have your business running while you sleep.
So why is this important?
- It looks more professional. Think of any business you’ve ever emailed, all of their employees will have emails like firstname.lastname@example.org. And it’s just as important for your business to have a branded email as well.
- Better email delivery rates. If you’re using any email marketing platform such as Mailchimp or Convertkit, it’s a little known secret that emails have a higher delivery success rate if you’re using a branded email. Meaning your emails are less likely to end up in your client’s spam folder where they’ll never see them. This works by validating your domain with the email platform you’re using (a very important step). Meaning the email platform now recognizes that you own this domain and email services such as Gmail and Outlook will happily deliver emails from this domain to your client’s inbox.
What does it cost and how do I get a branded email?
Another reason having a branded email is a no-brainer is because the cost is so minimal. I always recommend getting a branded email directly through Gsuite (Gmail for Business) and it costs $6/month. If your website is with SquareSpace, you can take advantage of their partnership with Gsuite and get it free for the first year! Gsuite works in exactly the same way that your personal gmail account does. You login directly from gmail.com and voila you’re accessing your business email. I strongly caution against signing up for email with your hosting company or Outlook, it’s just way more complicated than it needs to be.
